Adumbration

This is my small team of 3's attempt at participating in Pirate Jam 15. We weren't able to get the game to build in web due to the complex shaders  & 3D assets. However we did finish the prototype and hope you enjoy trying it out.

Game Summary

Adumbration is an isometric puzzle game focused on the use of cone(s) of light and the ability to rotate the play space to uncover interactable objects in order to upgrade their light with different elemental shards, allowing them more ways to interact with their surroundings.

Controls

W A S D: Camera moves forward/back, left/right

Right Mouse Click & Drag : Orbits the camera around the space.

Left Mouse Click  Hold & Drag on Light : Drag the light around the environment.

Right Mouse on Light: Tilt up / Down

Left mouse on Light: Rotates light

Left Mouse in environment: Interacts with revealed objects

Scroll Wheel while moving light: Light moves up/down

Change Light Element : Click on the UI triangles in game to switch light elements. Elements can only be switched once collected.

Inspiration

The game has numerous inspirations, with regards to both gameplay and perspective choices. Toad’s Treasure Adventure with it’s 3d isometric environment was a primary inspiration, with visuals heavily inspired by Chiaroscuro oil painting with their high-contrast dynamic lighting. The core gameplay has roots in point-and-click adventure games, as well as Unpacking, where your perspective is not one of a player character, but more of a ‘god perspective’ of the environment.

Player Experience

The player will manipulate a cone of light, placing it in different locations in the room to interact with the environment or reveal hidden items . Some  tell the story of the place, while others still upgrade the players capabilities, with more elemental lights that affect the environment when used, allowing the player to discover previously hidden items.
